A BILL FOR AN ACT
RELATING TO INCREASING FINES TO $5000 FOR EACH VIOLATION OF LAW
OR RULE THAT FALL WITHIN THE STATE ETHICS COMMISSION’S
JURISDICTION.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE SILVER LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. The State Ethics Commission (Commission) was

established in January 1968 to promote and enforce high
2
standards of ethical conduct in state government and to preserve
3
public confidence in public servants. The Commission's
4
responsibilities are to:

(1)
Administer and enforce standards of conduct provisions of
6
the State Ethics Code (relating to matters such as
7
conflicts of interests, misuse of confidential
8
information, acceptance and reporting of gifts, misuse of
9
official position, misuse of state resources,
10
representation of clients before state and county
11
agencies, and post-employment restrictions);
12
(2)
Administer and enforce the financial disclosure
13
requirements of the State Ethics Code for state
14
officials, employees, board and commission members, and
15
candidates for state elective office; and
16
(3)
Administer and enforce the State Lobbyists Law.
